Re: Who do you think is a Cylon
Since they are saving the last name for the big finish, it has to be a bigger name than the character's revealed so far. So who is bigger, i.e. more important a character, than Tigh and the Chief? Both Adamas, and the Pres. So the final cylon is likely one of these three.

Re: Who do you think is a Cylon
I think Baltar or Starbuck would be just as big a reveal out of known characters, Rusty, but, as others have stated, it would make less out of their experiences so far. These characters work because they're flawed humans, much like Roslin and the Adamas. I'd say it's either going to be a lesser character, such as Gaeta or Dee, or one that has had little or no screen time but has had some significance. It's going to be interesting as well to see where the more mechanical-looking Cylons will fit in. The skinjobs might want to be human, but I doubt the Centurions and Raiders are going to want to be taking orders from "human wannabes".

Baltar might be as big, but he has asked for it too much. Stardoe is so crazy I doubt either side wants her, haha. Actually I think making Tigh, Anders, and the Chief Cylons makes less of their experiences so far. It is too much of the 'humans revealed as cylons' gimmick. But it's done now so we have to go with it. "Little screen time but has had some significance"? How about Bulldog? Yes, I thought the mechanical cylons would have rebelled against the humanoid cylons before now. Last ten eps for sure.

Re: Who do you think is a Cylon
TheCrown: Since my initial guesses of Gaeta, and the Battlestar itself are now blown out of the water....I say......mmm...........Helo!
You know, I'm surprised this idea hasn't been discussed more. I was first introduced to the idea with the latest (I think it was that one, or the one previous) Hypaspace podcast, where Johanna Ryan had interviewed Eddie and spoke briefly with Mary. Anyway, up until then, the possibility of Helo being the Final Five never even occurred to me, but as soon as I heard it, I could totally see the value of the theory.
The problem lies in the fact that most viewers, myself included evidently, were convinced and accepting of the long "Hera as an important hybrid child" arc. The importance of this child to the Cylons (and thus the equivalent, just as important desperation of the humans' desire to therefore prevent Hera's capture) was such an emphasized and repeated theme that it was easy to believe completely that Hera is a half human, half Cylon child that represented the Significant Seven's aspirations to reproduce. Also, that we can so easily accept the fleet's humanity is a given--we don't watch Lost or Star Trek or whatever and keep wondering whether the primary cast of characters are really human. Of course they are! But RDM has proven to be a wily, tricky soul that does not adhere to convention; in such a case, the fleet's humanity is just a very wrong assumption (hence my support of the theory Cobalt presented in another thread that so neatly explained nearly everything).
Anyway, I had thought that theory practically airtight until now when it is so unlikely that Starbuck is the last Cylon--this left a hole, because now there is no explanation for her resurrection (in a nutshell: it was proposed Starbuck is the last Cylon, died on that planet but was close enough to Earth to download, Earthlings are really older generation Cylons / Cylon-hybrids perpetuating that cycle of events, live, mix, nuke, flee, etc). Admittedly, Helo as Final Five still does not explain away her apparent death, but it's still a well-thought out idea.
This is what we know:
-
1) With Tigh impregnating Six, it's already accepted that the Five are different somehow than the 7--they even age!
- 2)The 7 did not know any of the Five, until D'Anna discovered who herself
- >>>2a) therefore, Sharon did not know Helo's true identity, and assumed he was human, having been able to reproduce with him. To their knowledge, "humans" and the 7 could breed, but Cylons could not together. She has no reason to suspect Helo is not a human.
- 3) D'Anna clearly said that 4 of the 5 special Cylons were in the fleet when she was on Galactica.
- >>>3a) this could mean that the 5th is dead, but that seems rather anti-climactic.
- >>>3b) this could also mean that the fifth was not present in the fleet because he was still on the baseship--Adama, Roslin, or Helo.
So, you could say the Final 5 represent the last individuals of the most highly developed Cylons of the past. These highest-tier individuals got rid of that whole breeding incompatibility between Cylons, explaining Tigh and Helo's ability to reporduce with Six and Sharon, respectively. This is a preferable explanation over the shown "love" idea--that what Cylons found they needed to conceive was love, which is overly quaint, flimsy, and too easy.
With the other Final Five all being in secondary or high positions of power (Tory > president's aide, Tight > XO, Anders > Caprica Resistance leader, Chief > boss of the deck), as mentioned by Johanna, Helo plays second fiddle to many others throughout the entire ship.
Whether he knew from the start what he was or not, I think it'd still surprise me in a good way to find out he was the last.
If he knew, his motives suddenly become less about human decency and morals and more about his own interest in secretly helping the Cylon cause (having a child with one of the 7 to bridge the gap / solve their deficiency, disallowing the Colonials from wiping out his race, etc).
If he doesn't know, it's a little less satisfying, but goes on to show how human the Cylons can finally become when they reach their most advanced states).
It's just at this point, the Final Five has got to be someone fairly significant that is featured pretty regularly--Helo fulfills this far better than say, Gaeta, Tom Zarek, Zack Adama, Kendra, etc.
So, any thoughts? Helo does not seem to be a popular theory / candidate to be the last Cylon, but I think it has merit for sure.

Re: Who do you think is a Cylon
actually I never meant to imply that Kara was the fifth cylon. I only meant to imply that IF all humans are 1st generation cylons, then there exists some sort of "1st generation" ressurection technology, which is latent, and has been deactivated by proximity.. (like being too far from a resurrection ship). I just meant that Kara, (being a 1st generation cylon, and having ALSO been to earth), was probably resurrected by a mechanism on the other side of the wormhole from where she died. clues came from Six & Baltar's dialog on the planet Kobol in the second season : Six said that all humans who died on Kobol whould never see the kingdom of God, and they would know "only oblivion". (she implies that the exodus from Kobol to form the 12 colonies had something to do with proximity to resurrection, like being too far from a resurrection ship). another clue came from Natalie Six's speech to the Quorum when she was trying to convince them to blow up the cylon's resurrection Hub: she said that resurrection was robbing their existence of meaning. it stands to reason that the 1st generation cylons would have also felt the same way, and perhaps that is why they branched out into space: in order to get away from proximity to resurrection technology. if that is the case then they would eventually reach proximity to resurrection again now that they are 'backtracking' their way across the galaxy --> my point was just that Kara was the only one of her entire race to travel that far towards proximity to resurrection. (that 'any' BSG human who went throught that wormhole would have resurrected, beacuse, all humans are cylons. hehe. NOT because kara is the fifth sentry model of her race) -====-

Re: Who do you think is a Cylon
Another good defense and well-considered ideas!
So who's your biggest candidate, based on any evidence we right so far, as the final Cylon? It's hard to say, hey? There is much you could use to argue for any one character--because let's face it, it just HAS to be someone we know already, and also additionally somewhat significant (Gaeta, Dualla, Helo, Starbuck, etc). I mean how big of a disappointment would it be to find out it was someone insignificant (relatively) like Colonel Fisk? Or that it's a new character completely? You know, the more I turn it over in my head, the more I think Helo would be the best choice. Actually, Zarek, Apollo, and Gaeta and such would also be good, interesting choices, but what I mean by "best" is that Helo has to me the most established background for it. I like him as a character where many don't because of various things like him stopping the virus, possessing some special status that always let's him avoid discipline, his boy scout-ness, and so on, but I wonder if it would mean he is aware he is the last one or not. If he is aware, he has been expertly manipulating opinion with all his perceived travails with the Cylon "enemy" to perhaps demonstrate things like empathy, sympathy, and ultimately harmony (Athena as spouse) are possible. While on the side of the humans, he's also been the one most active and successful in preventing unnecessary Cylon deaths--he's trying to play on both sides, but more chiefly on the human's side to build up their acceptance toward the Cylons--because I don't think it's a stretch to surmise the Cylons are the side more willing and ready to lay down arms given the chance (meaning if the humans would also respect a truce). In such a case, would not his naive, "They tried to live with us [on New Caprica]" comment then be sincere? If he is NOT aware, his behaviour and dilemmas become a great study on the certain struggle and upheaval that will result when people discover that they are Cylons too, but he represents a positive result, eventual tolerance and acceptance, the only thing that can take them out of this destructive cycle. The others, again, have demonstrated their own things that may hint at their Cylon nature, but now I feel Helo would be the most satisfying final Cylon for his close involvement and association with them and their plot. I realize I may be eating my words in January and the BSG writers will weave an amazing yarn that totally justifies that Zarek (for example) is the final Cylon, but I would be okay with that--that's why I love the show, it's so brilliant. :)

Anyone else notice this mornings episode: It was the one where the clandestine group is killing the collaborators from occupied New Caprica. All the 4 cylons are in the group. What say the fifth? When they jettison "Rabbit", one of the "extras" is the same guy who was in the pilot of BSG as the officer who goes to the space station and meets six. Right at the beginning, and 6 kisses him before the station blows up. Now he's a survivor. And in the same group as the 4.
"Space" employees who lurk here suck! Never wear a mask, always be yourself!!!

Not necesarily? Just because the same guy was in the pilot/Mini Series doesn't mean he's a cylon. Simplely put he's just the same actor playing someone else on the show.
Look at Star Trek Spoks father, played a Romulin, then his father. Tralane(chartor name) then played a Romlibn in The Trouble With Tribbibles.
If you ever saw Hercules & Xena there where tons of actors that played different people even when they ewhere killed.

Re: Who do you think is a Cylon
I don't think Billy is a Cylon 'cause they got rid of that character, he really was too wimpy for a Cylon. The final Cylon will have to be some one that justs makes you go WOW. Like when you saw it was Chief and Col Tigh. It was like wtfrak -Tigh 'cause he killed Helen and had such a committed anti Cylon love for them and Chief 'cause he kept dreaming he was one, and had that meeting with one of the Cavill. Although for me Anders didn't cut I could have totally bought it if they had made Helo a Cylon but that would trip with their 'special baby' thing they got going with him and Athena I think the final Cylon will be Hera because she represents the future like she could be the end game a plan the Cylons have had all along And heres' a list of Cylons past and present Doral,Leobon,Cavill,Simon,Col Tigh, Anders, Tyrol - Caprica 6, Sharon,D'anna,Tori I think you can see the guys outweigh the girls it's just that your double dipping by counting Caprica6 clones and Sharon clones
