    And...

It would have to ship with hookers and booze to even to come close to making me happy with it.

... they probably wouldn't charge as much than MS... the hookers, that is. Devil

I had to find my own. (and faster than Vista could, I might add)

Why didn't you just Google? Stick out tongue

I'm thinking half of them are in the book.

Only escorts or courtesans, not hookers.  You need to expand your vicecabulary.

    Question:

Is it possible to emulate an Xbox 360 to run their games on a PC?

    The answer is here

Remember, it's not the overall answer that is important, but the reading. Stick out tongue

    My favourite:

would it be difficult to port it then, or is that again a case of no-one knowing trhe 360 programming?

the 360s hardware is so diffrent to a normal pc that emulation inside windows is years off if it can be done at all
take the cpu of the xbox 360 to quote wikipedia "The CPU, named Xenon (Microsoft) or Waternoose (IBM) is a custom IBM triple-core PowerPC-based design."
now try emulating something that can do 3 processes in the time it takes most pc cpus to do one and to add to that the graphics card is considered top of the line even for a pc today
these specs alone would send most programmers running for the hills

So much for having Vista... now we know where Microsoft exercises their best efforts to. Geeked

And so is my last chance for Tiger Woods PGS 09Sad

    Hey Rick, Naomi, over here!

    Got a conundrum for you:

Was going through FUTURESHOP's recent PC sales for ready mades-- AMD 4400, 320GB, 2GB RAM, DVD Burner, and 19" LCD screen... $499.

    Say what???!

I know and build PCs, and I gotta tell you: Peeps, I can't touch that price!  By themselves, the LCD monitor alone costs $199.  That's almost half.

If I made up a parts list:

    1. Case w. PSP- $79
    2. MS Keyboard and mouse- $29
    3. 320 GB Hard Drive- $60
    4. LG GH22 $35
    5. Motherboard $109
    6. Processor $85
    7. 2G Kingston RAM- $50
    8. 19" LCD Monitor $199

That's over $640 in total, $724 with tax, and with Windows with it`s yet another $100 on top of that, and it's the best I can do, part by part, with on-sales.

So I ask you: how do they do it?  Even I'm scratching my head...

XP gets another six months on Death Row

AS VISTA CONTINUES to flop, XP refuses to die, with Microsoft once again extending the old OS’s life to OEMs for another six months.

... In the meanwhile, fingers crossed and XPect to be saying Hasta La Vista very soon.

    Read about it here.

See?  What did I tell ya, hem?   Told ya what to expect from MS... Big Smile

The only thing I can think of is that they get a better quantity discount than you do. Don't know what prices you quoted, but retail is easily twice the manufacturers cost, so there is lots of room in that price to work with.

    TheArticle:
Computer makers will now purportedly be allowed to offer 'downgrade rights' – if that’s what the Vole insists on calling them – from Vista to XP until July 31, 2009, six months after the former 'final cut-off date' of January 31, 2009.

So OEM's getting another 6 months to sell XP, support continuing until 2014 and a clear majority of users opting to skip Vista all together makes me wrong how?
     Stick out tongue

It would seem that you have overestimated Microsoft's malevolence or underestimated their fear of user backlash.

Oh puh-lease, MS continuing support until 2014.  So they say.  And I got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell ya. Stick out tongue  No really, I got a great deal for it. Big Smile

After this, I wouldn't be surprised that they'll yank that from under our feet tomorrow.  Consistency has never been one with MS' forte.

I'll believe when it happens. Party!!!

Nothing of the sort, hem--  I just don't trust MS.  When people say "Gee, I didn't see that coming.", I do. GeekedSuper Angry

    AMD Split.

Advanced Micro Devices said Tuesday that it would split into two companies — one focused on designing microprocessors and the other on the costly business of manufacturing them — in a drastic effort to maintain its position as the only real rival to Intel.

    Read all about it here.

Scary stuff-- almost ironic the it was anounced before Hallowe'en.  What do you make of this, Rick?

Well, I would LIKE to say that I'm sure they've done their research and must know what they're doing. Unfortunately I've seen things like this crash an entire company before.

I am an Intel fan and plan to stay that way, but I believe Intel needs the competition in order to stay sharp, so I'm hopeing AMD doesn't screw this up.

    Norton UAC tool

Ok, I'm not sure if this is good or not. Symantec is supposed to know all about security, so I hope they haven't been whacked with the dumb stick.

Here is a beta utility that Norton is working on to add a 'don't ask again' option to Vistas UAC popups. It's free for download (for now anyway) but it does send feedback to help Norton continue to develop it.

You can read some pros and cons (mostly cons) in the comments here at Znet.

Next Windows OS is Windows 7

MICROSOFT HAS MADE IT official. The new name for the next Windows Operating System will be – take a breath, sit down – Windows 7.

Mike Nash, Volish Veep of Windows product management, made the announcement in a blog post last night in which he did his best to explain Microsoft’s previous fuzzy logic in the naming of Windows software...

...Windows Vista continued in the totally random and meaningless name trend, only remotely useful name-wise for when we all happily shout “hasta la vista” when we chuck it out the, er, Window...

The hemulator must be pleased.  CoolStick out tongueBig SmileParty!!!

    Read it all here.

    **Edited for update:

Update: Here’s all the Vista team will say, courtesy of a spokesperson: “Microsoft is working on a second Windows Vista service pack (Windows Vista SP2) and will share more details in the coming months.”

Update No. 2:  From the server team, via a spokesperson: “(T)he comment (above) serves for Windows Server as well; Microsoft is not commenting further on the timing/release plans for the WS08 SP2 at this time, but will share more details in the coming months.”

Microsoft is expected to release a public Beta 1 of Windows 7 in mid-December, according to internal schedule information from sources. I haven’t yet heard when Beta 1 of Windows Server 2008 R2 is due, but I would bet it will be in the next month or two, as well. If Microsoft really is hoping to get Vista SP2 and Win Server 2008 SP2 out first, that doesn’t give the Redmondans a whole lot of time to test and deliver its pair of SP2s.

    Steve Jobs to quit Apple

STEVE JOBS is apparently planning to do what no other Messiah has done before him - he is planning to quit.

Normally the way for those to leave a religious cult they have created is to be nailed up, shot, get arrested, or die in office, but the dark satanic rumour mill is suggesting that Steve is planning to just walk away from the Apple cult he created.

Read every bit of it here.

Personally, I thought it would've been a planned exorcism.

    Vista is Doomed.

Like we didn't see this coming.

AS MICROSOFT goes into this week's Professional Developer Conference, it is hard to find anyone keen to talk about Vista. True, it is a developer's forum, so you would expect a fair slice of the talk to focus on Windows 7, but it seems that no one wants to mention the V word, according to Microsoft Watch.

    Read the rest here.

    Then there's this:

Catalyst drivers for Windows 7 tip up

AMD has released a version of its ATI Catalyst drivers for Windows 7.

The firm said the release is to coincide with the pre-beta release of Microsoft’s Windows 7 OS.

    Read that here.

Ol' Microsoft sure won't let the grass grow under its feet-- or they must really hate wanna sweep Vista the "V-word" under the rug?

Wow, is the world coming to an end? W7 isn't close to being released and there are drivers ready. With Vista, it took months to get some drivers AFTER it was released.

    Indifferent
