Blood Ties -- Too Good to Cancel

At a time when the publishing industry is publishing more vampire literature due to huge public demand, it would seem that the television networks would want to get in on the action and produce quality shows such as Blood Ties.  The acting and the writing is excellent!  It would be a shame if this show disappeared simply for lack of funds.  Surely there is a network out there willing to gamble on another season, especially as it was only recently broadcast here in Canada and is just now building momentum.

Re: Blood Ties -- Too Good to Cancel

Blood Ties was definitely one of the best shows last year. I don't know which I was hyper about. Blood Ties being the excellent television program that it was or 30 DAYS OF NIGHT being the scary vampire flick it was. 30 DAYS OF NIGHT was a crazy film. I seriously think it was like the best Vampire film in a LONG LONG TIME. Blood Ties was different but it had the deep story line of a Lost or Heroes with a little Buffy in the mix. PLEASE DON'T CANCEL. If you they do hopefully they will make a movie like 30 Days of Night

With all the "Reality" programming and other pap thats out there on many network rosters these days, it seems to me that a wonderful, imaginative, and engaging story like Blood Ties would be a no-brainer for any network with standards!        Its a well written and well acted series that deserves the chance to grow, find its full audience and finish this great story.

Its also the perfect chance for some insightful Canadian network to realize that this is a wonderful vehicle to begin promoting what Canadian productions can do if given the right support and backing.    Commit to this series.  Promote it, schedule it in a good, consistent spot so the new fans can find it and begin to follow, and it will do you proud.

    Blood Ties MUST come back.

Re: Blood Ties -- Too Good to Cancel

I just read in last week's Toronto Star TV guide that there is a "remote chance" that Blood Ties will return if an American backer can be found.  Considering how smart and sexy Blood Ties is and the cross-section of the population it has interested you would think there would be at least one American network that would be willing to come on board.  However, I am wondering why the Canadian production companies even need one.  I'm sure we don't have American backers for Little Mosque on the Prairie or Corner Gas.  And Blood Ties is every bit as Canadian as it is filmed in Vancouver though representing Toronto with Canadian actors.  And Tanya Huff, the Canadian author of the books, is Canadian and the creative consultant.

It also said in the answer to the letter in the TV guide that Blood Ties has "militant fans" so I guess we need to continue to be heard. Keep writing!

After viewing the many dreary, timeworn, mind-numbing offerings on TV, it is a real gift to be able to watch a program that is imaginative, fun and full of heart.

I agree, Blood Ties is a great show. I saw this show on Space the other day and remembered how I had wanted to watch it before, but didn't have the time. I immediately went online and started watching all the episodes, just finishing today! It's such an addictive show. It's also wonderful to see Canadian talent at its best, it brings out your Canadian pride. With respect to the show, the actors are youthful, believable and alluring, the character development and storylines are intriguing, and the cinematography is excellent for a tv series. It's not often you see all this in a tv series. I understand that Blood Ties needs financing to continue, but also creative marketing ploys, and persistent fans. I hope that the fans (and newcomers) will watch the reruns since this might help create more buzz and get the show a Season 3. I also hope that some network will give this show the opportunity to at least complete itself without a cliffhanger since it deserves that at the very least.

Re: Blood Ties -- Too Good to Cancel

I am a new fan. Very new. I saw my second episode last week on Space. I love this show!!! I hope it doesn't get canceled. I have to admit, for a Canadian show... I am so proud of this show and how well written, shot, and acted it is! Why is it in this country, once we get a good thing going... they cancel it or get rid of it! What is up with that? Why can't we have something good??? I have been searching all over for the DVD of season one of this show (so I can get caught up), and can't find anything - only dvds sold in England! What is that all about?? What is going on?

I hope for all the people involved (those employed by this show) will get a chance to have other seasons, the fans will have more shows to view, and that Canada can show how great our talent is up here!

Re: Blood Ties -- Too Good to Cancel

I really believe that SPACE should give serious consideration to renewing “Blood Ties”for the upcoming season and beyond.

Two fundamental factors influencing the ultimate success of any show are quality writing and acting, both of which are abundant and leading factors in the success of this series and in the devotion of fans to “Blood Ties”.  It has its pacing down and is just the right mix of camp, humour and seriousness; yet the writers always ground us in reality just before things get out of hand.  They have also done a great job at mixing “stand alone” episodes with the overall story arcs and the developing/deteriorating relationships among the three primary characters.

It’s also well known that the producers went to extraordinary lengths to ensure that the chemistry between the leads was correct – lengths that are obviously more than justified in the finished product.  The power, charisma and skill with which the cast portray their characters have given us fully realized people in whom viewers can become emotionally invested.   These are what make this show so compelling - the on-screen chemistry between the cast and the tongue in cheek banter between them that leaves you wanting more.

As a result of the unique blending of the technical and artistic talents that make up “Blood Ties”, since January of this year the show has been nominated for no less than five awards, including:

    ·                CFTPA Indie Award: Best Prime Time Drama Series

    ·                Leo Award: Best Cinematographer, Danny Nowak

    ·                Constellation Award: Best Female Performance in a 2007 Science Fiction Television Episode, Christina Cox, Blood Ties; Episode “5:55”

    ·                Constellation Award: Outstanding Canadian Contribution to Science Fiction Film or Television in 2007, Tanya Huff; “Blood Ties”

    ·                Houston International Film Festival: Special Jury Award, David Winning, Blood Ties; Episode “5:55”

The fact that the original 22-episode run has been purchased by networks in more than 10 foreign countries should attest to its broad-based appeal.  Also of note is the fact that, in the United Kingdom, the DVD of “Blood Ties” first season sold out on the first day of its release.

At the end of the day, a driving factor for any show’s survival is viewers.  “Blood Ties” has continued to attract new fans since the conclusion of its original North American run. Most of this new viewership is reported to have come from the most powerful form of fandom – word of mouth.  A large number of websites and fan communities continue to provide new viewers with an introduction to the show.

Can a network bank on the investment it makes in any particular show?  No, however, the novels that are the source material are popular the world over and have never been out of print. The original 22-episode season is being aired in various corners of the globe and a solid fan base continues to grow.  The author of the novels and series creative consultant, Tanya Huff, recently won the Constellation Award for Outstanding Canadian Contribution to Science Fiction Film or Television. I think any network would be hard-pressed not to seriously consider a show with a pedigree this persuasive for its line up.

“Blood Ties” boasts compelling writing and a fabulous cast.  It is a Canadian production with a Canadian cast and crew based on Canadian source material and benefits from the superior production values that have become standard for productions originating from this country.  These are features that we, as Canadians, can and should be justly proud of and need to continue to support.  What better reason to invest in a show having a ready-made audience that is clamouring for more?

SPACE/CTV has at its disposal a hidden gem, one which the viewers themselves are promoting the merits of.  Renewing “Blood Ties” would preserve one of the few programs that provides what I find television, in general, seems to be lacking recently – intelligent and engaging entertainment.

Blood Ties is a wonderful show, and I would love to see more of it! Please give us another season!!

I checked the Space schedule, and they're playing the last episode on August 19th at 9pm. Replaying that episode again at 9am the next morning, and again at 1pm that day. Then there aren't anymore episodes being broadcast (at least not on the schedule yet).

PLEASE play the season again! We love Blood Ties!

Re: Blood Ties -- Too Good to Cancel!

Blood Ties does it all the way!

It was such a well written show (and with Huff at the writing helm, she kept her vision intact).

Not to mention the chemistry and sexual tension between Vicki and Henry which was almost palpable! And also not to mention that it's by a canadian writer, canadian based and canadian acted/actors!

I am such a fan of the show, that I went and bought the book series (now with re-issued covers of Vicki and Henry from the TV show).

I would hope another network (preferably Canadian) would take it up  ("Hello, CTVglobemedia"). CTV Globemedia is becoming (has become ??) a giant among the networks, and have successfully gotten shows past and present shown both in CND and USA ( e.g.: "FlashPoint"). So who is to say if they got on board with Blood Ties, that it won't be taken seriously by a USA net. which may opt to air it simultaneously!!??

In any case, I'd hope it all gets done / sorted out before any of the main cast become unavailable to continue filming, due to other scheds and conflicts and such!

Who do we have to proposition a/o petition to SAVE this damn show!!

Re: Blood Ties -- Too Good to Cancel!

The few shows i have watched seemed Cheesy, low budget, and just not worth the timeslot. i'm sure they could slip in another block for SG1 to bring it up to 4-5 times a day.

I really don't see how a Vampire TV show got on SPACE channel anyway .. it's not like they are Vampires from Space.. or Pigs in space...

why just not put on the Fragle Rock, it has as much SCI-FI as "Blood ties"

They cover fantasy too.  That is why they showed Forever Knight, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Black Scorpion.
    20 minutes into the future.
