Re: Christmas Special 2007
Eh, Katy Manning she isn't.
There are worlds out there where the sky is burning. And the sea's asleep and the rivers dream … People made of smoke and cities made of song … Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, somewhere else the tea's getting cold!

True. Katy did get a little more… "enthusiastic" with her Dalek…
We now return you to your regularly scheduled topic...

The latest rumor is that Jennifer Saunders (from Absolutely Fabulous) will be the next Doctor in 2010.
Peter Davidson's Daughter will play a 'key role' in the next season of Doctor Who. Someone made this short but cute animated Doctor Who Christmas story. Give it a peek.

Heh.. AbFab continues to be tenuously linked to Doctor Who. A number of years ago it was Joanna Lumley who was apparently under consideration for the role (and indeed played it in the wonderful The Curse Of Fatal Death). I can't imagine Saunders as the Doctor, at least in any serious long-lasting capacity. I can easily imagine her in the role as a spoof or one-off joke sort of thing, but I can't see her carrying the role for any period of time with all the demands it places on character development and exploration.
Davison's daughter is indeed confirmed however as having a meaty part in the next season.

A couple of little things lately. The special hasn't even aired yet and... The Christian community is flaming the Doctor Who special for portraying the Doctor as a messiah The last surviving member of the real Titanic is flaming the Doctor Who special because, for some reason the special is disrespectful. Other than those certain Christians and survivors, everyone who's seen the advanced screening have said they were blown away by it... just as they were paid to say. No really, everyone says it's great. I hope the nice English bloke who is going to post it for me knows that it's 71 minutes long. And some mediocre news, David Tennant denies that he has already decided that this new season will be his last as Catherine Tate had alluded to. He didn't say that it won't be, just that he hasn't decided. 2 days, 2 hours, 20 minutes and counting...

Specifically he said that no-one has yet asked him to make any decisions, so he has not yet done so. I hope he stays on, I really do. From interviews he's given it seems he has a great love of the role, so I can't see him really wanting to leave so I'm not too concerned.

Just--Me:Got the Box Set for Series 3 for Christmas. I haven't had a chance to actually watch them, yet, but the set itself, and the DVDs, are very pretty… (I especially love the picture of the Doctor and the Master standing back to back.)
You'll need to acquire the REAL commentary for the final episode when you get to it. I still haven't played that one, so don't know what the podcast sounds like. David did another really great job on his video diaries. and.... just checking to see if the special has been posted yet. Yup, there it is. I was going to save it for tomorrow, but it's still early enough to watch it tonight. Woo hoo!

Re: Christmas Special 2007
Well. The Christmas Special is now a 'Been there, done that' for me. Although I'll likely watch it a few more times over the holidays. Without giving away anything... This was the best of the Christmas Specials, but not the best episode overall. Lots of action, a few good jokes. The resolution is a bit far fetched, but acceptable. I wish I could repair my car the way the Doctor repairs the Tardis, if you watch it, you'll see what I mean. Kylie does a fairly good job with her acting and her character is fun and likable. (Oops, almost wrote lickable )
All in all, a good show to sit down with on Boxing day. Also watched the Confidential, of course it was mostly about Kylie. All of the Confidentials are worth watching if you're a fan.

Stephen Hawking to guest star on Dr Who
This actually made me laugh, just thinking about it now, picturing Hawking in the role, still gives me a chuckle. It's a spoof of course.
British theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking has been lined up to
guest star in an upcoming episode of the cult BBC Science Fiction
series Dr Who.
Hawking,
author of the best selling science book ' A brief history of time' is
set to reprise the character of Stavros, creator of the daleks.
"Stavros
has always been a firm fan favourite" said current Dr Who, Christopher
Biggins. "To have someone like Hawkins join the show is amazing"
Stavros,
the evil, half mechanical half monster who creates the daleks will make
his comeback in an episode entitled "Return of Stavros: creator of the
daleks". Stavros, originally from the Greek Island of Kos moved to
planet Skaro in the mid sixties. ... and while I'm here... Where has this been hiding all this time???? It's a web comic called "The 10 Doctors" and it's about 70 pages long now. I've read the first few pages, it looks great, can't wait to read the rest.

Re: Stephen Hawking to guest star on Dr Who
Just watched the 2007 Christmas special myself last night. Not a bad episode but like someone else said, not the best. I thought the brief "messiah" scene was a little much and too predictable given that RTD wrote it. Kylie Minogue's character was enjoyable - it's nice to see that some pop princesses have passable acting abilities. The trailer at the end intrigues me - bodes well for Season 4. As for rumours for who (sorry bad unintentional pun) will replace Tennant, everything is speculation until confirmed by the BBC. However, I really hope that RTD does not try to get too cheeky & cast a woman in the role. Maybe I'm an old fashioned fan, but the character of the Doctor should be played by a male actor (I could care less about the gender of the Doctor's companions). Given the depth of actors in the UK, I'm sure there will be someone else (male) to fill the role.

That's the same feeling I got after reading the article. At the very least, it seems Tennant will stay on for the specials scheduled to air in 2009. As a side note, maybe it was just the way I read the article, but I got the impression that Catherine Tate & Tennant maybe don't get along that well. However, maybe it was just me reading something into the article.

I've seen a couple of people mention a "messiah" scene in articles/posts/whatnots, but then no other detail on which scene they meant. I have watched the special, and I'm still not getting which scene they're referring to. I wouldn't mind one episode or a very short story arc involving a regeneration gone horribly wrong, with the Doctor ending up female but then restore to being male afterwards. Doug
