    Bump.

    TONIGHT.

And if anyone can bring a copy of "Unrealized Realities" I could borrow, that would be most kind!

    Hey Kurt!

Not only do I have Unrealised Realities, but I even have it cued up and ready to play.

Ummm. On a slightly related note, have you noticed the weather out there? It looks like the rain is icing the roads quite nicely... If Ken and I can get into Calgary, I will bring the tape with me. Otherwise... What are you doing next week?

We're chinooking right now, so it's quite lovely outside.

    8*C, slightly cloudy.

    And the AMA road report

Next week's not so good. I'm writing the APEGGA exam on the 19th.

We had a hell of a day here also. I heard it was going to be +4 and we may get rain...well it happened. Started the car and went out to scrape about about 5mm of ice off the glass!! What nasty business on the roads also...absolutely treacherous! Really weird weather going on out there....

We made it there and we made it back safely. Rain on top of ice.... not a good time. However the weather looks terrific now, bright and sunny and supposed to warm up to -1C. So quite reasonable (if you don't count the icy conditions....).

We were talking about doing something for Con_version in August, and I know there are some very Farscape convention savvy people out there... I was wondering if I could get some of your valuable input into what works the best at hooking eyeballs at these events?

Anybody else in Calgary going to that International Pink Floyd Cover Band concert tomorrow (17th)? Ill be going, just wondering if anyone else is? It's supposed to be so good that you can hardly tell the difference, Real good apparently as I've heard from reliable sources. I'm just a young buck though so I never got to see a real Pink Floyd concert and for me this is next best thing.

    This is Firecrackers husband.

I went to see the Pink Floyd Experience last night in Red Deer and was very impressed with the show. The lead guitar player could have been David Gilmore's clone, in fact he even looked like him (50+ years old, balding, paunchy) and he was great. Keyboards and drums were likewise very good and the bass and sax players were good. Lead vocals were sung by a guy who did very well with the strange Pink Floyd vocals and he was able to get his voice up very high and even do the female parts.
Overall, a great way to spend the evening, and if you go, watch out for the Pig.

Thanks for that info FireCracker's Husband. Should be a real good time, and I'll keep an eye out for the pig. ;)

    Re: The Calgary Meetup thread

Well, I'm a loss for words. The show was totally mind blowing (The Pink Floyd Experience) and I didn't even have psychadelics. :(

Just my night was completely thrown off by the weather. The whole up and whole way back had such a huge thick fog, I was unable to see more than 20-30 feet ahead of at time and most likely less many other times. There's an interesting story about an incident we had going back, and immediately my buddies tell me I should seriously take flying lessons or something for the way I handled it driving. It was just intense.

Anyway if the Pink Floyd Experience comes back to any town near you, GO!! GO!!! It's great. You shan't be dissapointed.

    PALATAL YAKINIKU RESTAURANT
Choose your dining experience at Palatal

Some people might consider it tempting fate.
The last restaurant I reviewed, The Mecca Cafe, burned to the ground.

So maybe it’s not a good idea that the next dining out column should be a restaurant that not only involves barbecue food but puts the cooking in the hands of its patrons.

But despite those warning signs, the large, bright, bold sign on Macleod Tr. for Palatal Yakiniku Restaurant was far too inviting to pass up.

The new restaurant is an interesting idea which offers three different dining experiences.

There’s the Mongolian stir fry aspect ($10.99 per person at lunch, $15.99 at dinner), much like other local restaurants The Mongolie Grill and Khublai, where you pick your ingredients — meats, noodles, vegies, and sauces — and a chef stir frys it for you on a large grill while you watch.

Or there’s the Japanese cook top ($17.99 per person, dinner only) that allows you to barbecue your own ingredients on a grill that’s built into the table — a great idea for a long, full couples night out.

Finally, if you just need some nibblies while you’re imbibing, the front lounge also has its own appetizer menu which features dishes such as egg rolls ($4.99), jalapeno poppers ($5.99) and calamari ($7.99).

Inside, the restaurant and lounge are both beautifully decorated in a colourful Asian motif, and even the staff is attired in kimonos.

Upon our arrival we were met by an extremely pleasant hostess who walked us into the large dining room and carefully explained our options.

With a young child with a He-Man action figure in tow — kids eat for half price — we chose the Mongolian grill experience due to its relative quickness and smaller danger potential (he may be Master of the Universe, but he also melts).

Our waitress came promptly and took our drink orders chosen from the impressive drink list.

After bringing the Tsing Tao (with frosty mug), diet pop, and juice, the waitress then pointed us in the direction of the all-you-can-eat salad and appetizer buffet, which features fresh greens and equally fresh appetizers such as won tons, wings, chicken balls, beef stew, and egg rolls.

(The buffet is included in the price of the cook top and stir fry meals, and both meals also come with a soup and rice.)

While the appetizers leaned more towards the Western style Chinese food in taste, we were surprised at how consistently the trays were topped up, especially considering it was a Tuesday night and not extremely busy.

Next up came the Mongolian stir fry, which you pile high and build to your own tastes.

Although the selection of ingredients is noticeably less than either The Mongolie Grill or Khublai, there is still a tremendous amount to choose from including pork, beef, chicken, onions, lettuce, baby corn, noodles, broccoli, and mushrooms.

Again, the food was kept — and tasted — remarkably fresh, and the actual preparation time took seconds.

The ginger ice cream we shared for dessert ($2.99) was incredibly refreshing and the perfect topper for the experience.

We’re already planning a return to Palatal for something completely different.
