| A great report on progress in growing the Farscape audience & community! Italiani magnifici del lavoro!
We just received a letter a few days ago from the Scaper contingent out in Italy, and they're sending wonderful news about what they've been able to accomplish. Congratulations to Giovanni and the rest of the Scapers there that have worked so hard to make this possible.
Here's the letter:
Dear Staff of Watchfarscape,
I am back to you after an year from last time I wrote.
We are a Farscape fan group from Italy (so forgive me for my bad english). The name of our club is Farscape Italian Club (FS.I.C.) and we live in one of the few country which never had Farscape shown on TV.
In my last note, I wrote you we were planning to license Farscape in our country, trying to push people to watch Farscape through a great project of fansubbing.
It did work.
We got in touch with an italian network which decided to acquire Farscape's rights for Italy and a DVD society which choose to stake on this product by using our help as italian texts' supervisors and advisors about the show.
Farscape is now finally reaching Italy; the dubbers are working about season II and in February this show will finally be aired in our country.
We consider what happened somehow a personal achievement, and we are really glad to be able to tell you that Farscape in Italy will have all our support, and is ready to get its place in our country with an excellent version.
I think this news maybe will interest you, as "community of farscape fans". We are so excited we are finally reaching you and we are ready to get our place among you.
Virginia Hey, as our most distinguished member, sent us a beautiful letter with a wonderful special dedication. You can see it on our home page ( www.farscape.it) and in our special section devoted to Zhaan ( http://www.farscape.it/html/virginia.php). Her comment and support makes us so proud.
Please, let me know if you can make a note about our club on your web-site, just to let someone know Italy is scaped too.
Thank you for all your wonderful work
Giovanni Casano

It truly is fantastic. I'm just surprised this is the first we've heard of it. What a great surprise.
I'd love to see and hear the Italian dubbing.![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)

Re: The Scapers in Italy have triumphed!
Giovanni of the Italian 'Scapers posted on Terra Firma today.
Hi folks! I am Giovanni Casano... the writer of that letter. I am writing this note because I am really impressed and touched, together with my italian friends, by your warm welcome. We are still a small group, but we are growing. The Premiere will be aired over here on February, 13. We really want to be ready for that so important day. Lots of things are still to set up. The website isn't still complete. And our "to do" list is so long. I just want you to know how much we care of your welcome and support. If you like, I can come back after the broadcast start and tell you something about what will happen. We are so excited. When we started watching Farscape, we were only three. We liked SCI-FI and original series, and we started to think: how can we share the wonders we have seen with our friends, if it's so hard for them to watch a series in the original version? There was only an answer. Our fansubbing project started on hat day. We did really subtitle 88 episodes and the whole mini. We shared the texts with our friends. And then, things happened. We were not lonely. No more. Sorry, it is hard for me to say what I feel. Italy is scaped. We are a part of the project team. And, as my friend Salvatore likes to say, "here is Italian Farscape, exactly like we wanted it to be, but we managed other ones had to pay for it". Sorry for all my mistakes trying to talk with you. Thanks to all of you, who spent some time to read and comment my letter. Thanks to all of you, who tried to tell me something in italian. You made us feel like a real family. I will make a note about you as soon, on our website. Come, talk with us, and be welcomed.

As Margaret Mead, a prominant anthropologist once said: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. "
Yippee!

This is the part I like:
And, as my friend Salvatore likes to say, "here is Italian Farscape, exactly like we wanted it to be, but we managed other ones had to pay for it".
In true 'Scaper fashion. *snicker* Wasn't that how John managed to get Farscape One paid for?

Re: The Scapers in Italy have triumphed!
I e-mailed Giovanni for the Farscape Italian Club snail mail address as Farcape Canada wants to send them some swag.... including some Scorpy Chip Cookies from our very own TBZF!
Giovanni e-mailed me back with this reply:
Dear [Me], I am really still astonished by the rumor my news on watchfarscape caused. I didn't think so much people, so much amazing people, could read it and contact me! You are very special people, I am proud to say that. Your offer is so generous and kind, I can't say how much grateful we are! It will be wonderful to receive your gift. I will personally care you receive a copy of our gadgets, as soon as we will have them! :) So, include your address in your package. Thank you for the compliments about our web site. We are trying to do our best, because we really want to be ready when Premiere will be aired (February, 13). I will surely write you and your friends talking about it.
I am now working on the "frelling links" section of the web site. Please, be sure your beautiful site will be included as soon. Thank you and your friends, thanks a lot, thanks to be what you are and thanks because you got a simple mail and you turned it into something so important, allowing us to meet new friends. Best regards, Giovanni |

Re: The Scapers in Italy have triumphed!
The Farscape Italian Club put a special page on their website to thank everyone for their enthusiastic welcome.
Sorry to bother you again... I just wanted to let you know we have a new page online in our web site. It is a tribute for you, to thank you all for your welcome. I tried to translate the incipit of the page for you, so you can read it and understand its meaning. The page is at the address http://www.farscape.it/html/dnoi/you_guys_rock.php If one of you wants to help me to improve the english version of this page, I will be grateful.
You guys rock.

If you haven't checked out their website yet, take some time and do so. I am suffering from severe website envy. http://www.farscape.it/ *snicker* Plus they have linked to Farscape Canada on their links page. Very purty.
And for the record Giovanni - you rock!

Re: The Scapers in Italy have triumphed!
Giovanni replied to the question about how his club came to be:
Well, let me see... The first time I heard about Farscape was from a friend of mine, Luca. He went to the States and stayed over there for some mounths. So, it happened he watched the show and come back with the DVD boxes. He told me Farscape was so amazing, so intriguing, and so on. He made his duty and "scaped" me. It is not so easy to start watching a show in Italy, when it is not on air. So I found some episodes over the net and I immediatly felt the same need to share Farscape with other friends. My first victim was Salvatore, and then Rossella and many many others. We found a store on line and bought the DVD boxes. Sadly, not all our friends were able to watch a show in english. We had to find a way to help them... So the first Italian Farscape fandom (Salvatore, Rossella and I) started this madness of the subtitles. 88 episodes seemed to be a huge goal. We were not sure to be able to accomplish the task, but the show was great, the internet resources about it - thanks to the fans of all the world - were huge and with time our priorities changed. People were answering so well to our project. If we were late in "releasing" the subtitles of the "new" episodes, some of them tried to go beyond us making "automated translated" titles that were not what we were involved into. Our goal was not simply to let people understand the story going on, but to let people understand all Farscape's particularities, in language, feelings, culture and yotz... You don't want to know what's an automatized translation. I am glad you don't need to see one of them. However, priorities changed... and the targets were no more only our friends... we started to dream to scape Italy. So we set up the Farscape Italian Club in the april of 2004. It was a great challenge... we payed money, our money, to do this, and Farscape was something really unfamiliar to Italy. Now our members are about sixty. I know this number can make you smile; your are thousands. However, there are many other scapers who didn't enter the group and there are so many future scapers in Italy, only waiting for the time to discover to be ones. But now it will be different. The show will be aired in our language, and the Italian premiere of Premiere will be a starting point. We have just to wait for February, 13... Ehr... sorry... too long post! Giovanni |

Re: The Scapers in Italy have triumphed!
Farscape Canada sent the Farscape Italian Club a congratulatory e-card yesterday and last night Giovanni replied:.
Auguri

Thank you so much for your e-card.
You are wonderful people.
Merry Christmas my friends

For those of us who don't read Italian, here is the English translation.
Farscape Canada continues to be overwhelmed by the love that fans have for this show. We share your love and applaud your incredible efforts to bring Farscape to more Italians. We are also "Irreversibilmente Contaminati".

Update to: The Scapers in Italy have triumphed!
February 13, the date for the premiere of Farscape on Italian TV is fast approaching and TBZF with the help of many other Canadian 'Scapers has outdone herself (again).
Here is a picture of the contents of the package that we are sending to Giovanni and the Farscape Italian 'Scapers to help them celebrate the premiere of Farscape on Italian TV. An accomplishment, incidentally, that the Italian Scapers were instrumental in organising.

Congratulations to the FS.I.C. and wishes for many more Farscape successes in the future!
We could still use a little help so please check out the front page of Farscape Canada for details.
Once again, thank you to TBZF and all other contributors to the gift package, and a special thank you to the FS.I.C.
'Scapers Rock!
