Cool is right! I love the new twist on the much-hated Immortal bit. Nobody does fanservice quite like Joss. Wink

Re: Still Stakin, the Buffy Comic Thread Season 8

So, I've renamed this thread for any discussions on the upcoming Season 8.

I've ordered my issues through TFAW as I'm lazy about going to a store. They were supposed to ship today, however, there were problems at the printers, so they will now be shipping on March 21st.

There is an alternate cover for the first issue.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight #1 (Variant Cover)

    Episode 2 Cover

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight #2

    Episode #3 Cover

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight #3

Looks to me like TFAW is an American site. Is there anywhere in Canada to order from? I don't really want to have to go check comic stores every month from now till the end of the series.

TFAW is listed on Dark Horse Comics site as their favourite online retailer for purchasing their titles. I have used them to purchase my Firefly/Serenity editions since the local comic store felt is was not worthwhile to stock any Firefly titles. As I said, I'm lazy to go find a retailer that sells the titles, so I'm using the online service. This way it comes right to my door, no fuss, no muss.

The locator found the same store that I was in yesterday (the comic isn't in yet), but the place is a bit difficult to get to. I did a search for Canadian mail order places and found 2 but the shipping at both is $6 while the comic itself is only $3, so rather than paying $9 per comic, I guess I'll have to go shopping myself each month.

    Season 8 #1

Well, I have it. Right here in my hot little hands. (When I'm not typing)

I hate it when you have to choose between different covers. What's that for anyway? Are we supposed to buy both versions?

Spoilers: ( Buffy and the gang have definitely gone high tech. Of the Scoobs, we only get to meet Buffy, Xander and Dawn. Of course Dawn is complaining again, this time it's about putting on some weight. The army is back and being stupid again, but this time they've got help.)

It's a pretty quick intro, these comics are a lot shorter than I remember. (It's been a decade since I bought the last one.) It's difficult to get the  'feel' of our old Buffy, but hopefully a few more issues will help.

As mentioned, next issue is April 4. How about if we post some reminders to each other. It going to be difficult to go shopping for each issue. Anyone know how many there are supposed to be in all?

I think there were originally going to be something like 20, but it's now up to around 25. Joss is writing the first four, and the double-sized final issue. In between, he'll be plotting, and the writing is supposed to be done by some well-known comic book writers, and former Buffy writers (each writing a four-issue arc, I believe.)

    - - - - - - - -

    Update:

I was wrong: the series was originally going to be 25 issues, but not any more. Here's a bit from an article about the comic from March 2, 2007:

The season will be broken into arcs, each with a different writer. Though he initially thought the series would run for 20 issues, Whedon has since revised his estimate to be well over 30. He's writing the first four issue arc as well as a one-shot in the fifth issue. Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Runaways) will be taking over after that. Whedon will return for various stories and arcs throughout the season, particularly to end the entire storyline.

You can read the entire article, including an interview with Joss, here

    - - - - - - - -

As for issue #1, I wasn't able to get it, today — due to huge mudslides that wiped out portions of the Trans Canada Hwy north of Vancouver.
(The highway could be closed for as much as 10 days;  I'm hoping the comics will come to town via another route…)

We now return you to your regularly scheduled topic...

    Just--Me:

Well, that's going to be a problem, there's no way I'll be able to be at the right place at the right time for every issue and if I can't get the whole series, there's no point in getting any of it.

    Re: Season 8 - Updated!

I liked the old series how one cover was art and the other was photo.  I have heard the 2 cover thing is just for the first issue and in the catalogs i get each month just mention one cover and actually unlike some multiple covers that this time it was not a even split.

I expect this will be released in graphic novel form afterwards... (or in several volumes as they go....) -- Rhys
