Tomorrow the contest for BSG Season 1 DVDs will begin. The contest will go until April 12 and 7 winners will be chosen for that also.

Q. I live in Quebec, why can't I enter a CHUM Limited contest in Ontario?
A. When a contest is run in Quebec, it has to go through a separate body called the "Regis des Jeux et des Lotteries" before ANYTHING can be given away. This board is set up by the Quebec provincial government and imposes a tax on prize value. Anyone who runs a contest in Quebec has to give the Regis des Jeux et des Lotteries 10% of the prize value. Not only is this tax commission expensive, but also involves weeks of applications, justifications, and reports. Often, our sponsors can't wait 4-6 weeks to get approval from this body. So even though we would love to include contestants from Quebec, the Regis des Jeux et des Lotteries quite honestly, presents too many loopholes.

well, thanks for clearing that up. I always thaught that contests "and video games" couldn't be valit/sold in quebec, unless the product/prize were in french too.

well, i guess i'll just have to get a friend from ontario to enter for me lol.

I don’t mean to nag, but I find it kinda funny that it doesn’t pose a problem for Musique Plus and Much Music, both owned by CHUM. Surely an effort could be made to include Québec residents in future contests. If there is a 4-6 weeks wait period for approval from the Régie des Jeux et des Lotteries, perhaps Space should consider including Québec residents if the time table permits it instead of automatically excluding them?

I can only speak for myself but I feel let down when I am excluded from a contest based on where I live within the country, especially when I am paying money to get this channel added to my cable line-up.

There is a larger issue here- your complaints should be with the Quebec Provincial politicians.

GAH!! why must quebec laws be sooo dificult!..

anyway.. i just wish that the sponsors that do the space giveaways, will now actually do whatever they need to do, to allow residents of quebec to win... because i have never "seriously, never" been able to join any online contests anywhere because of the quebec laws.
