Actually, I've heard the film will be a tense, character-driven drama set entirely in one room.
... with toy cars on one of those electric race sets from the sixties - COOL.  Then the pedestrians are plastic army men set up on the track - heh heh, sounds better all the time.
Sir, I believe that you have just come up with a perfect story idea for Robot Chicken...seriously!

I don't know if there'll be only one room outside the battle arenas, but judging from the size of the arena I've seen this isn't going to be toy cars... there's supposed to be more than one place where the drivers will race, but I only seen one of them partially. The longest stretch would be around half a mile, with a 130 degrees turn at the end of it... and plenty of various stuff to restrain the arena size.

Unfortunately we no longer have any deliveries to do on the site, so I don't think I'll get another chance to see what's going on there... I'll have to wait until the movie comes out next summer to see what it'll look like...

Thankyou.  Perhaps I will write up a spec proposal and send it in.

Re: Statham in Death Race 3000

Saw the trailer for Death Race before Wanted the other night. I have to admit that it has me psyched!

Sorry if the trailer has already been posted... I don't visit the board as much these days as I used to. I did a search first but you know how that goes...

And, in the "related videos" category: The cars of Death Race 2008:

Re: Statham in Death Race 3000

Looks like it has possibilities.  But they don't need the prison angle, and he's a former NASCAR driver!?  hahaha.  That is relevant in this type of race?  And was that 'fitty cent' ? oh no.[Edit. Nope, it was Tyrese Gibson looking three times the size he was in Fast and Furious 2.]   Then of course all the female prisoners look like bikini models, dress in skimpy outfits and walk like tarts - but that is just part of the package in this type of movie.  It also looks like the trailer gave away all the major plotpoints.  But Deathrace 3000 may still be good, harmless, action - fluff.

Its kinda impressive that a NASCAR driver could be as higly trained as a US Marine or a Navy SEAL Hmm

I belive there is a huge plot hole in this movie, how stupid can these prisoners be,they are given cars with weapons including missiles and stuff,so why aren't they using it to blow up the door and get the F out? Tongue TiedBig Smile

Perhaps, they are given just enough weaponry to remove, mutilate or spindle each other, but not enough to escape with?

    Re: Statham in Death Race

Perhaps all of the prisoners have been fitted with Running Man prison collars, so if they get a certain distance from the prison, their heads will explode!  And then the CARS would explode as well!  So they'd be yelling  "Ahh, my head's exploding, wait, I think I'm going to make it, oh no, my car's exploding too!  Ahhhh!"

Big Jim McBob and Billy Sol Hurok think that would work.

It turns out that the prison angle was ok.  But the original concept for the remake was to have an around the world race, which I think was a better idea.

It had many things that made no sense even for a modern action movie, and there was no real story, little characterization, and not much sense of a race, just car-combat. Anderson did a poor job writing, and directed it as though he was anxious to get the movie over with and move on to the next paycheck.  But there was some good fighting, and of course sexy babes (trivia: most of the women you see getting off the bus in the commercial are sexy stunt women playing the navigators).

It was a typical action movie, like any other made these last few years.  Only the setting and actors change.  Think of it as harmless mayhem and it is worth seeing.

But to answer Maple's question, the warden's control tower staff can shut off the weapons electronically, plus the guard towers are fortified against the car's weapons, the guard towers have bigger weapons, there are helicopters with anti-tank weapons, and the only entrance/exit to the island prison is one causeway that is guarded at both ends.  So the lack of escape attempts is one of the few things in the film that makes sense.
