There's enough ep's in lost's run at this point where space could have run season's1 through
3 weekday evenings & replayed the season 4 ep's on saturdays for people who missed the thursday
brodcast, but that's jmo. as for the show it's self it once again has it's hooks in me and refuses to let go
well we now know what the #6 that was in all the ad's leading up to the premire were about at least, & we know who 3 of them are now I'm driving my self crazy trying to think who the other 3 are.

I think that the 'New Overlords' are also into getting some interesting older shows- we've already seen that with Robotech, and I know they are pursuing some fan favorites. The new Doctor Who was even mentioned- a show that would likely not have appeared here with the 'Old Overlords'.

If space can get the new Who I'll be amazed, maby there'll even be hope for getting heroes but I doubt it.

Dr. Who and heroes would both have to be available in syndication, and both are a few years away from that.

I loved Heroes for the cheese factor, but season 2 was a major disappointment for me. It started slow and just petered out (no pun intended.)

Dr. who continues to amaze. Some of the best tv writing ever.

Sometimes we might share projects (as we do with Supernatural, Smallville, and the sarah Connor Chronicles) but in some cases we'll be the lead broadcaster. If we do get LOST, I think it will likely be in strip syndication, so it's a different broadcast experience. The fan reaction to Season 4 on SPACE was massive and negative, for a number of reasons, and lo and behold, it's not going to appear.

I think that the 'New Overlords' are also into getting some interesting older shows- we've already seen that with Robotech, and I know they are pursuing some fan favorites. The new Doctor Who was even mentioned- a show that would likely not have appeared here with the 'Old Overlords'.

As for Trek, as long as viewers flock to it (or any other show for that matter), then those shows will stay on the schedule.

Good to hear that there's even a slight chance of getting Lost- strip syndication sounds like the perfect way to watch this show, so here's to hoping that happens at some point!

New Doctor Who would be a great addition- unlike so many shows the episodes never get tired even after two, three.....and more viewings.

Funny you should ask. Babylon 5 has come up a few times, but not in a programming context.

B5 seems to be the example of a show that never seems to grow beyond it's 'core' audience.

I think B5 is an amazing example of a 'novel on TV', and that seems to be it's greatest weakness, and greatest strength.

Ah well, was worth asking. I've still never seen it, and have been quite intrigued by the "novel on TV" description of it.

Babylon 5 is an amazing show. It was created and written by J M Straczynski, and, stunningly, he managed to write over 85% of the show.

His vision for a unified 'novel on TV' was a real conceptual breakthrough, and for the most part he managed to pull it off.

The cast had a few major changes, but remained largely intact.

The SFX still hold up today, and at the time they were considered a technological marvel.

The show suffered from budget cuts, and broadcaster neglect, but even with those troubles B5 remains one of the most important SF tv shows, ever.

I have never understood why B5, and Farscape (another excellent show) have never had large, loyal audiences.

I urge you to check out both shows- highly recommended!

Farscape was brilliant- I've seen most of it and it's really like nothing else out there, but I think it's something that takes a few episodes to get used to simply because it is so different- a lot of viewers may not have given it that chance unfortunately.

On the topic of B5 I also have to state I am amazed on how well it was done and thankful it lasted as it did cause part of me would be worried if it had gone beyond it's 5 season if would of stayed as good as it was.  Also I think the other thing that was neat is it had a series of for a lack of a better term movies of the week that in comparrison to other tv shows who do movies of the weeks the B5 ones were well done as which is rare. Finally I got to say I am happy to say I got a pleasent surprise recently I know they have been out for a while but one of my good friends in the USA who was going to let me have there prerecorded B5 tapes to replace some of the ones I have taped off both USA & Canadian TV but instead they sent up the Season 1 DVD set.  I just hope either her or me can get the rest of them.

I think that right now B5 is one of the top 5 requested shows.

B5 is a show that I'd love to have back on SPACE, but that isn't my call- I'm a producer, not a programmer.

We've shown B5 it the past- in fact we aired the show before SciFi did- but it just doesn't seem to get the audience, or the respect it deserves.

My advice- keep requsting the show!

Farscape and Babylon 5 are two of my all time favourite shows.   I like smart, thoughtful, exciting shows that don't pander to the lowest common denominator.  

I own both series on DVD and they are two series that I was happy to spend my money supporting.  There are very few shows (I think) where people are enriched after watching.   Farscape and B5 are two of the best examples.  The new Doctor Who also qualifies.   Marshall McLuhan once said "we become what we behold" - I think he would be comfortable recommending Farscape, B5 and Doctor Who to viewers.

Of these, Dr. Who seems to be the easiest to get people to get into, it seems more accessible to a mainstream audience.

I wonder if part of the reason farscape and B5 never did that well in re-runs is because the 'superfans' of these shows bought the dvds...

That hypothesis works well for Farscape - 'cause I (amongst many others) bought the box sets of each series as they came out, and that was during the time those episodes aired on Space during their reruns.   But I don't know that it works for Babylon 5.   I think B5 aired on Space (and other stations) long before they were available on DVD.   I dunno.

I sincerely hope that the money TPTB make off their DVD sales is enough to fund further adventures in their respective universes.   I am happy that the CBC is co-funding Doctor Who (and Torchwood), and are reaping some of the rewards of DVD sales.   I just hope that those rewards go back into the show - and not get spent on non-genre programming.   'Cause that would make me bitter.

P.S.  Both B5 and Farscape have some kind of a future.  Mostly because the creative powers behind the series are ALSO the ones who have the oomph, commitment and sheer bloody mindedness to make it happen.    Doctor Who would never have returned without Russell T. Davis at the helm.
