I don't think anyone has really proposed Tom as an option but it is starting to make a lot of sense. RM does have a bit of a Shyamalan-esque flare for twists (although RM is far better at creating a great show). A long time ago, it was Richard Hatch who was a proponent for bringing back BSG and even though he originally didn't agree with the darker version that has emerged, he has been an integral part of the creative team since the beginning. The role of Tom Zarek was introduced early enough in the show to keep him always in play politically. And after the occupation of New Caprica where we finally started to like the guy (as part of the resistance), you have to admit it would be a fantastic twist to make the original Apollo the last Cylon - especially as he is very integral to the fuctioning government right now. I can't think of any show references right now that might support this idea but if anyone can think of any, let me know. AND I have the best idea for a cylon detector that would actually work. Capture a raider. Set it up in the hanger bay. Remove all of the missiles and bullets from the guns and disable the FTL drive. Then march each person single file in front of the thing and if it pulls the trigger, you're human. Its too bad the only people who might think of this as an idea are the current cylons who are "in hiding".

I've been wondering if he's one of the final 12 and has decided to see if he can't bring them down from the inside. He could be the chalice beside Lee in the last supper photo. 

Sorry MapleDog.  I guess the idea has already been proposed.  By the time a certain thread gets to be 200+ posts, the conversation usually becomes somewhat diluted (like people talking about the Borg while discussing BSG).  So by the time the thread gets that old, I just stop reading it.

I do agree with you though.  Nothing would be more fitting than the original Apollo getting the covetted 12th cylon spot.

And as someone already mentioned, if there were a 13th cylon, the cheesy re-introduction of Dirk Bennedict into the show for that spot would totally BLOW any credability RM has.  So anyone out there who thinks of mentioning Dirk as a serious alternative should consider NEVER trying to write a good sci-fi script (I say good because if you are aiming for totally cheesy, go right ahead).

And as mentioned in your thread, Tom Zarek is not in the last supper picture so he is a definite possibility.

 

If we wait long enough, everyone who isn't known to be a cylon will be predicted to be a cylon. Not that there's anything wrong with speculation, as it's all fun, but no one can know what these writers will throw at us. Besides, they're likely to toss in as much misdirection as possible to make the reveal be that much more shocking.

Ok, on a serious note.... I really don't think it will be a character who has NOT been already on the show. It's probably someone we don't suspect. I'm gonna have to rewatch..sigh(like its really a chore..not) with a note pad and look for cues. They love to forshadow alot and give cues to upcoming plots. I'm thinking that RAZOR has a Big part in this final season. But Tom wasn't on BSG when the others heard the music, neither was Starbuck.

Dunno yet too early to tell....

I just can't shake off Callie's throw away line in the last episode about how she "hasn't gotten a good night's sleep since that frackin nebula."  That's when the other four were activated so...

I noticed that line too. But I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that she carried a half-Cylon baby, rather than an indication that she's a Cylon too.

... mmmm possible ,but more likely misdirection in the sense that the Chief had been tossing and turning since finding out he is a Cylon and that would have kept Cally awake a lot. I know it's a simple explanation but most misdirection is simply done.

I started to think about Tom Zarek being the final cylon a little bit after the season premier. In a little bit of a stretch, it would be kind of funny, considering Leoben's line from the first season that Adama (or Apollo from the original series) is a Cylon. 

I don't see many of the other living main characters being cylons.

Zarek being the 5th Cylon would have a certain twist to it all and this has been well discussed here and in another thread. Just throwing this out there but has anyone seen or noticed Dee this season anywhere since her breakup with Lee ?  She use to be at least a figurehead on the bridge before her characters role grew. Now it's like she has been killed off without being so.

I noticed this too... her most memorable scene in the last four episodes has been when Lee told her that she "got the house" when he left Galactica and joined the Quorum.

Dee's presence has been noticeable since the mini and especially after she married Lee and was stationed on Pegasus. Like Gaeta, though, she seems to be taking a back seat to other characters so far this season.

Maybe because this is the last season and the writers want to keep the important stuff at the forefront, secondary characters & plots have been trimmed?
