    Book you're reading

What was the last book you read? What are you reading now? And what's the next book you're going to read? P.S. These don't have to be recommended books, just curious as to what everyone's reading...

Last book read: Tales of the Dominion War (anthology)
    Currently reading: Vulcan's Forge
Next book to read: the sequel to Vulcan's Forge ;)

Last read: "The Portable Door" by Tom Holt
Currently reading: the first book in the B5 Centauri trilogy.
Next: the second book in the B5 Centauri trilogy...

By the time I'm done the Centauri trilogy, I'm hoping I can get my hands on Jasper Fforde's "Something Rotten".

Last book I read was Robert Sawyer's "Calculating God" which I LOVED.

I just started "Singularity Sky" by Charles Stross - pretty good so far.

I picked up another book by Sawyer last week - "Flash Forward" and will start reading two Alastair Reynolds books, "Redemption Ark" and "Chasm City" when I'm done with Stross's book.

Happily I will be occupied with the good stories in life for the next few weeks.

I like Sawyer too. He can always be counted on to tell a solid tale.

I haven't read any Sawyer stuff to date - I don't know, it's all biology related, and it feels like I can't be bothered. I've met the guy, and he's pretty decent, if not a bit self-involved (in the I'm an author, read-me-rara-way), but his books leave me meh just by the back cover.

I can't argue with that assessment one bit. His work is sound but despite the fact it's won Hugo's I've not read one that has totally wowed me. I happen not to mind the biology backgrounds; I like things that explore the medical psychological aspects of humanity.

I think a lot of his success is down to having a sharp mind for self promotion and marketing, backed up by consistently sound stories in an easy going style with a wide appeal.

And really what more could an author want for himeself... I should be so lucky just once before I die. :p

    Re: Book you're reading

I just finished Wilbur Smith's Blue Horizon, the latest in the Courtney family chronicles.

Currently I am trying to start Blood Ties by C.C. Humphreys. It's a novel about the six fingered hand of Anne Boleyn being used as a religious relic and the search for it from Europe to early Canada. A little hard to get into.

Next, I have Dreaming the Eagle by Manda Scott, a novel about Boudica the early English warrior Queen.

And, Vancouver by David Cruise and Alison Griffiths. It's similar to Edward Rutherford's novels Sarum, London and the Forest. Vancouver is shown just after the last ice age, and it follows characters and their descendents up to modern times.
