Probably discussed at some point previously, but what the heck, I'll just start a new thread:
Some time last year, I found my copy of Polarity, from the mid- '80s. I found just playing around with the game pieces, could be as much fun as the game itself.
While doing some cleanup in the crawlspace last month, I came across a bunch of board and table top games from my youth (1970's). I couldn't resist in pulling some of them out. (Yes I realize, some of these are lame, but there was a laugh factor involved seeing them again).
Battling Tops - LOL! I was quickly reminded to duck, when one is sent flying out of the arena.
Rebound - table top shuffleboard. Send a steel ball with plastic ring around it, down off the rubber bands at the opposite end and into the scoring area. First to 500 points wins.
Skittle-Bowl - Endorsement by PGA Champion *** Weber: "This is the next best thing to having a bowling alley in your living room." Uhm, wooden ball on chain attached to stick, object is to fling ball outwards and it knocks wooden skittles (pins) down, on return. They fall into the giant hard plastic tub (21" x 21"). More like, it is as noisy as having a bowling alley in the living room. This game is tough. I played a few games, couldn't even break 100. Scoring is done as normal 10 pin bowling. I think, as a kid, it was easier to just yank the chain and count pinfall from that. lol.
Concentration - Whatever Edition it is, I couldn't resist scrolling through the Rebus puzzles.
Price Is Right - LOL! Would be interesting playing this one, with 1970's prices.
The Inventors - Object of game collect "invention" cards (different classes, A, B or C), ranging from ideas such as a "parachute hat" to "eye protectors for chickens". Get them patented and start collecting royalties. Novelty item was the "automatic dice roller", you put the dice in the top, pressed the plunger, they dropped through the contraption, ringing a bell before coming out the bottom.
Movie Maker - Collect cards representing film type, director, actors, actresses, location. Get it funded, released, hopefully win an Oscar (game includes mini oscars).
Split-Level Aggravation - Played on two levels, move men out of "Start" and around the board to "Home". In this version of the game, the upper level moves around, accordingly to the number showing on one of the die. Pulled this one out after Easter dinner, sis and I had a laugh, b-i-l thought we were nuts.
Great Downhill Ski Game - place tiles, make tracks from top of board to bottom, avoiding trees.
Crokinole - I remember finger tips getting numb from flicking the wooden disks. Checkers on reverse side.
Happy Days - Hang around with "The Fonz" collect "cool" points. First to 16 cool points on Arnold's jukebox wins.
Addams Family - board game based on the cartoon show from the '70s, if you're the first to "The End", you lose. Winner is the player closest to "Start".
Life - Get educated, married, have kids, eventually make it to "Millionaire Acres" or end up at the "Poor Farm".
Also found copies of Scrabble, Monopoly, Careers, Clue, Payday, Sorry, Mastermind, Cross Over The Bridge.
Hockey - I still haven't found my Munro All-Stars (Toronto - Montreal version) Table Top Hockey. I seem to recall, many bent rods, probably some missing sticks (this version had plastic sticks, sliding into players' hands). Many battles were fought on this and it did take a beating. Back in those days, I could get away with saying the Leafs won the Stanley Cup, not long ago.
I also spent some time on youtube watching television commercials of some of these (and other) products. lol! (eg. The two guys playing "Battle Ship", at the opera).
A booklet, I found in one of the game boxes, describing some games available back then, listed some strategy games that sound interesting: Campaign, 4000 A.D., Game Of Nations. Project KGB (2 games could be joined to make one big game) sounds Clue-like.
Do others occasionally pull out board or table top games from their youth? Perhaps introducing your own kids to them? Have had parents pull out games from their past? Memories of favourite games?
