Dr. who on cbc "Spoilers inside" from EST

Yea yea it's old its kinda chessy but hey so is that house show and they put that on tv. Okay so cbc is showing new eps. why don't space show the classic who. now I got it figured that enough people rose a stink about the vintage BSG maybe if enough folks do it about this show space might put Dr. who on, hey they might even replace that stupid house show
    I don't think so *ZAAAPPP*

because it airs on another cable channel. The only episodes available to Space would be the first 2 doctors, which Space already aired and had horrible ratings for.

Ratings are not based on the taste of one person. Our sample is about 5 million viewers...

In this case you are not even in the ballpark.

HHoF does ten times or more better than Dr. Who did.

    Not even close ratings wise!

Dr. Who has a rabid fan base, HHoF does not.

But as for VIEWERS- HHoF cleans up...

    Re: Dr. who on cbc

HHOF does ten times the ratings of Doctor Who?!  But wasn't that for the Hartnell and Troughton years? I enjoyed those Whos, but I would expect them to do poorly due to their extremely low budget production values.  But I am certain the Pertwee and Baker years would do better.  The show was at its best then, recent incarnations included.

As to this Saturday's show: It was good seeing Sarah Jane Smith again. The episode had humor, pathos, action, gargoyles - a good episode. There is hope for this Doctor.

Trivia: Anyone recall the Star Trek short story featuring a cameo by Tom Baker's Doctor Who?

    Re: Dr. who on cbc

I really don't think the production values were any better for the Pertwee and Baker years than for the Hartnell and Troughton episodes. The only real difference was colour vs black and white. I actually find the Hartnell episodes to be extremely well done, perhaps better than the Troughton ones.

And yes, Class Reunion was fantastic, I think I was grinning like an idiot through the whole thing. Great, great stuff. Sarah should've stayed on. Take her and K9 and give Rose the boot.

And no, I don't recall the Star Trek story with Tom. But to counter that, do you recall the Blackadder episode with Tom?

    Re: Dr. who on cbc

Tom Baker was Captain Redbeard Rum on Blackadder, Captain of a sailing vessel.  Blackadder wants to fake some exploring but ends up at sea for a few years, I believe.

Black and white photography could be the difficulty with those old Whos. I did enjoy them when I saw them years ago. Zoe was my favorite Companion until Sarah Jane.  But black and white photography is considered the kiss of death in modern filmmaking. Perhaps if the BBC colorized those episodes they would increase their internaional sales - stations would be more wiling to rent and televise them.

I like Rose. But it would have been cool to have Sarah Jane say until season's end at least.

    Re: Dr. who on cbc

Yes, the Sarah Jane Adventures, or Adventures of ...  .  In 1981 there was a pilot for 'K-9 and Company', the 'company' being Sarah Jane.  That she did not get first billing is bizarre, but 1981 was better timing for the show.

When I first heard of the Sarah Jane Adventures I was concerned they would turn Sarah into a sort of grandmotherly Miss Marple -type, playing opposite the kid.  But, Elizabeth Sladen was so good in Who this weekend that her new show just may work, if the writing is there.  Too bad it's a kid show though;  I'd rather see her team up with Rose, or Nyssa, or Peri.

Really... well not trying to sound sarcastic here but well...duh your a cross Canada channel and I'm guessing upper parts of the USA… New York, Boston, states along that line, so of COURSE you’re going to have a huge target audience.

In this case you are not even in the ballpark.

HHoF does ten times or more better than Dr. Who did.

Okay if HHoF dose so much better why are so many people complaining about it. http://forums.spacecast.com/forums/272726/ShowPost.aspx 2 pages about 25-30 comments approximately 510 hits of people all saying how much they hate the HhoF, last time I checked. And yes yes I am aware that this is not many compared to the thousands of viewers but the one thing that I'm sure you are aware of mask is that for ever person that walks away unhappy with something there are about 1000 people behind him/her.

    Not even close ratings wise!

Yea well the reason for that is because I'm just a viewer I don't work for the station I can’t see the numbers, BUT I am good at judging audience reactions to a situation.

Dr. Who has a rabid fan base, HHoF does not.

No that’s true, but HHoF has the stoned group that’s about the only explanation for why it went as long as it did or why it was considered funny. I didn’t get the jokes then and I don’t get them now but then again I wasn’t on the wacky tobacy back then either. Could you not play off CBC they show the newer eps you show the older ones. The last new one had Sarah Jane and K9 relics from the older version.

But as for VIEWERS- HHoF cleans up...

    See comment above lol

Lookey here M. I’m not trying to start a bickering war here. Yes I know that Dr. who was on space for a bit and that it probably did badly like many of the other late 70’s early 80’s shows that were on here. Quantum leap, time tunnel, the hulk etc and I will be quite when I have nothing left to say but until then to quote Johnny Cage aka Linden Ashby…lets dance.

Oh what time dose the Doc come on, on that BBC kids channel I got it but never really tuned in to it might watch now

Nonononono...  That would be dreadful. The fact that the Hartnell and Troughton years are now incomplete is probably more a hurdle in licensing than the fact that the episodes are black and white.

As to when BBCKids airs Doctor Who,  it's at 2am.. every night. Weeknights get  2 episodes while weekends usually get 4.

Just because you have 20 people who are complaining via a message board doesn't mean that the ratings suck.

"Ratings are not based on the taste of one person. Our sample is about 5 million viewers..."

I am seriously having a difficult time believing that Space can in any way claim a 5 million sample rate for any show. And the population rate is no doubt what 30 million? Come on, this is absolute bull.
