So now I know that we truly are distantly related due to our bad sense of humor. I swear to god, I saw that title and was just coming in here to post...

"No ribbing, eh AKalel? So obviously you don't believe in the importance of HER pleasure..."

Ribbing is only pleasurable to a woman when she knows for certain you are joking.

I figured someone would do the above joke or do something about Adam. Sorry checked the above link and still not fully understanding.  Is a tag away you can keep track the status of fave threads?

Okay... let's see if I can do this without any more bad jokes. In the "Tags" box, I wrote the word 'Tags' and notice how it appeared at the bottom of my previous post in this thread. I will do it again in this reply, and you'll once again see it at the bottom of this post under my sig. So, when you go to do a search for the word 'Tags', this thread should come up in the search results. It's the same on YouTube when you post a video. If you want your video to come up in searches for comedy you write 'comedy' in the tags and that will become one of the search parameters. Let's say you wanted this thread to come up in searches related to the new forums, you could write the words 'new' and 'forums' in the tags and it would come up in related searches... Does that make sense?

    Re: Please no Ribbing

So if you want people to find a thread easier you type keywords/tags and so if anyone types one of those in search said thread would be showed.

So you mean that 'tags' are a sort of  'in house' search engine?

    Tags... you're it!

    terrryb:

So you mean that 'tags' are a sort of  'in house' search engine?

I dunno... I feel like maybe I didn't do a very good job explaining it. But, for example, if you click on the 'Tags' that I will once again write in this post, it will take you to a page of all the posts that include that tag... which will be the three times I've written it in this thread. But from there, you can click on "Browse by tags" and you'll get to this page:

    http://forums.spacecast.com/tags/default.aspx

And then maybe it'll give you a better idea of how that tags function works... if you do a little searching that way on any topics that might interest you. Also, when you start on the forums first page here:

    http://forums.spacecast.com/forums/default.aspx

there's a list of popular tags near the top right of the page that you can click on to see the various posts that include those tags.

And if I've muddled this whole thing further for you guys, I apologize. But I tried...

you explained it very well from a functional perspective. I was just trying to see if I was imaginging it's purpose properly... so like I could drive people nuts by putting a word like that three-letter one that begins with s and ends with x in the tag line off all my posts even if i never use that word in my posts.

Sax? As in short for saxophone? But yeah... I guess that could work...

    No no no.

She ment Six, driving all the BSG fans insane pulling up all the non-BSG posts. Wink

Back on topic, that's essentially how tags work.  For another example, check out http://www.flickr.com the photo-sharing website.  Try typing in, say Dragon*Con, and you'll wind up with all the D*C tagged photos that have been posted there over the last few years.   (Some great costumes, too!)
