    Star Control

    From FAQ/CONTACT US:
Where do I send programming suggestions?
Please check out SPACE's Discussion Forums for any and all comments about our station's programming. The postings on this part of our site are checked regularly by our staff and we truly are influenced by what our viewers ask for. Please tell us WHY you love the show, and why you think we should get it. Convince us!

I'd like to start off by saying that HypaSpace is an amazing show; I love how they cover everything sci-fi, and talk about video games also!  They provide excellent coverage on my favourite shows such as Star Trek, Farscape, and Battlestar Galactica.  The hosts (e.g. Natasha Eloi, Jonathan Llyr, and Kim Poirier) have bright personalities, and they always know what they're talking about.  I always learn something new.

Star Control II was made in 1992, and in the year 2000, the developers, Toys for Bob, released it's source code to the public, where it has been remade for Windows XP, Linux, and Mac OS X.  The frame rate has been improved, contains hours of spoken dialogue, and even contains remixed music. There are 25 unique playable ships, creating different fighting styles for every player.

Around early April of 2006, Toys for Bob has mentioned on their website, that they would love to make a new Star Control game, and want their thousands of loyal fans to write e-mails to them that TFB can use to show Activision how important Star Control is, and that a new one must be made.

HypaSpace is always talking about the latest news about everything from comic books, awesome action figures, movies, TV series, and video games.  If Star Control, and the undying desire for a new game could be mentioned on an episode of HypaSpace, it would be a great way to get Star Control's name in the spotlight, and would bring more fans to this amazing game.

    Re: Star Control

I second that: HypaSpace should definitely have a mention about Star Control.  In particular, that:

    1. The community has set up a petition to have the original creators make another game in the Star Control franchise.  Anyone can sign this petition online, and each one will have an impact!  People can sign the petition here: http://sc2.sourceforge.net/petition/petition.php

    2. The original game is available for free right now, and it's awesome!  Download it free from http://sc2.sf.net

    3. There's an outside possibility of having a Star Control booth at the Fan Expo in August in Toronto.

    Re: Star Control

Releasing the source code to the public is one of the best things that Toys for Bob has done for their fans!  This really reached out to the many fans out there, and a great way of distributing this great games to people who have Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.  And the UQM (Ur-Quan Masters) development team just added the NetPlay feature, which is lots of fun; human players are always a different challenge everytime.

With all the new innovations in gaming such as cinematics, and opponent AI, and the power of the Internet, the new Star Control game will definitely be full of surprises with the storyline, different ships, and especially the many aliens you would meet in it.

Since TFB joined with Activision, anything's possible with this game; these are the people who published Tony Hawk, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and even the Spider-Man games.

Gamespot even named it one of the "greatest games of all time"

    Re: Star Control

This is an awesome game.  I've played it quite a bit, and if there's any possibility of a sequel, I'd love to see it happen.  Everyone should check it out.  And the game is free, for goodness sakes!

    Re: Star Control

I agree; it's awesome, and a lot more!  We Star Controllers have been loyal to the franchise since the beginning, and a new Star Control sequel will bring a smile to our faces, and will bring more fans to the Star Control universe!  As long as people continue to write letters, and other forms of support, Star Control will show up in the game shelves sooner than we think.

I found a nice Youtube video of some Kohr-Ah dialog here.
