Sci Fi Channel execs continue to be at odds over whether to cleave the final season of Battlestar Galactica into two 10-episode chunks. As one source tells TV Week, "the money people" are itching to amortize the pricey series across two half-seasons. Showrunner Ronald D. Moore, however, tells the trade it might be better to run all 20 at once, "so [the fans] don't have to wait" — especially since viewers reportedly will "freak out" when they see the ending of Episode 10. A decision on the game plan may not come until January.

Elsewhere, Sci Fi is said to be pondering a two-hour standalone Caprica spin-off movie that, if successful, would serve as a pilot for a new character-driven, less-action-heavy series.

Also, TVGuide.com has learned that the Season 3 DVD set isn't due out until spring 2008.

I agree. I think SCI-FI is miss judging the fans. I think if they where to split it into two seasons, I think there be a backlash from fans and they might loose even more fans/viewers then they have now.

 

As for the S3 DVD not into 2008? Why? if in Jan its not bad but if your talking late Spring or early summer thats plain riddiclous!!!

 

As for Caprica? HMM I dought it would be a good one, especially if they split the series up.

Given the storm of negative reaction when Sopranos and Jericho tried similar things, one has to wonder what gets smoked down in the Sci-Fi channel offices.  Then again, we all thought they were nuts when they cancelled Farscape... and again when they cancelled SG-1... and a few other times besides.  So, while it's a definite candidate for "stupidest idea of the year", it shouldn't really be all that surprising to us by now.

As for holding the season 3 DVD release until spring '08... OK, that I just can't understand.  This would put the release well after the start of season 4 broadcast, so it's not like they can use the DVD release to hype the start of the new season, and well after any connective hype with the Razor thing.  It boggles the mind (but then, I'm still a little bitter about the decision to split season 2 over two sets... as a retail purchaser, it made the product a lot less attractive until the second half came out as well and retailers started to package the two halves together at a discount).  The only logic I can see to it at all is if it's part of the decision to split season 4 into two half seasons.  After 10 weeks of season 4 episodes and a cliff-hanger to drive us all nuts, they'll spring the season 3 DVDs on us and hope it keeps us placated until they deign to show the final half of season 4.

The season 3 DVD came out last month( mid September 07) Whoever-the-frak said Spring 08 is probably a Cylon or a Calaborator...

It is true... just not on our side of the planet.  Season 3 is out on Region 2 DVD, on six discs, released September 3, 2007 (but apparently with no extras at all... no podcast commentaries, no deleted scenes, none of the resistance webisodes, nothing).

For North America, where most of us watching Space live (or more particularly, Canada), the release is speculated to be "spring '08" as mentioned earlier... although that doesn't necessarily mean that the poster isn't a Cylon or collaborator, just that their report is accurate for this part of that small dirty orb called Earth.
