    Robotech: Shadow Chronicles

Ok, I watched Robotech Shadow Chronicles after I taped it on Friday.

Generally, I was disappointed by it...I liked the old robotech series because of the way the characters were drawn, without computers etc.  I found that the computer effects ruined the movie.  Price of technology I guess...

but the above is MY opinion, so dont harp on me because I didnt like it...make up your own mind and dont blast me because my opinion differs from yours, I have better things to do with my time then get into a Posting war...

Being Computer animated was one point against it, but another was that it didn't have a conclusion. Up until the end I was reasonably happy with the story.

I just want to know how it did in the ratings. Hopefully Mark will have some info on that for us soon. :)

    Welcome to Robotech! ;)

After all, the series that went before it 'concluded' similarly, with the end of a battle but the beginning of a new search for Admiral Rick Hunter.

I guess I didn't mind so much because I knew going in this wasn't intended to be a conclusion to the series, but rather one in a series of new films.

D'OH!  I knew I should have double-checked my PVR on Friday before heading out for the weekend.  Morale of the story:  Never assume you've already programmed it! Wink

At least I've got it on DVD and was able to re-watch it that way after the series ended. Big Smile

Upon the re-watch immediatly after finishing the series, it was interesting to see the bit of retcon they did with the Regis scenes (weren't our heroes standing right there for most of that conversation?) but it still worked in the long run.  It was cool to see Louis back, but I wonder what happened to Dana and Bowie.

I do agree that the CG was a bit jarring at first, but I eventually got used to it.

Really? I couldn't possibly care what happened to them ... or pretty much anyone else from the 'Masters' storyline, for that matter.

It was more for curiosity's sake than anything else.  Louis was on Grant's bridge crew, so at least one of the 15th's members survived the Invid invasion.  And Vince is allegedly Bowie's father...

I enjoyed it. Not as good as the old anime series though. Hope Admiral Rick Hunter has a bigger role in the sequel.

According to a good friend and member of my group the movie is a unoficial pilot for a new Robotech series.

But instead we'll be getting a second new movie next year.

Speaking of the Admiral of the Expeditionary force...its interesting they never mention the "other" one on that mission... because according to the novels Rick Hunter was the Rear Admiral

The 5 issue Prelude to the shadow chronicles comic series by Wildstorm (now considered cannon by harmony gold) details that Lisa is pregnant but suffers a miscarriage. She then resigns as admiral and joins the sentinels. Roboblog 3 has a detailed analysis of the comic series with regards to how it all ties in with the old sentinel comics of the 1990s.

Perhaps interesting, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the events in the 'Shadow Chronicles' movie. (Heck, even Rick Hunter has little to do with it.)

    Re: Robotech: Shadow Chronicles

The prelude to the shadow chronicles comics does have background information to the events of the movie as it depicts what happens to Rick Hunter before the movie, the origin of Janice, and some introductions to the new characters. There was a lot of foreshadowing to the movie and helps to bridge some of the confusion (while at the same time introduces new questions) of what happened between all the generations. Tommy Yune was responsible for both projects and wanted the Prelude comics to generate more of a buzz for the movie. Although it is not necessary for the casual fan to pick up the comics to follow the movie, this is akin to the star wars fans that viewed the clone wars cartoons prior to the return of the sith movie. Some fans prefer more depth; some fans just prefer the movies by themselves.

Yeah, but 'Revenge of the Sith' totally betrayed the excellent Clone Wars cartoons, especially in terms of totally dropping the ball with General Grievous. A kickass scary major villain turned into a wheezing cameo by a rusty hoola hoop.
