Bringing the X-Files show to Space

With the trailors  for the  upcomming X-FIles  movie showing it got me thinking  from when i was a  young teen i used to love watching the  X-Files now lately  it seems that its  next to  impossible to find the show on tv. I think that it would be great if  Space  (if possible) be able to  show the seasons. Im sure that im not the only one that would love to watch the shows once again. Would love to see what  other Space viewers got to say about this.

Re: Bringing the X-Files show to Space

SPACE launched with The X-Files eleven years ago, and it was a staple of the channel.

The show was played to death, not just on SPACE, but other channels, and you can see the epiodes on DVD...

so it is very unlikey SPACE will get the show in the near future.

See that?  Two little snips and you're talking about Tia Carrere 1 Hour Action/Adventure.

    Here's the thing...

The fans of The X-Files bought the dvd's. In droves.

The people who watch Relic Hunter watch it on tv, but do not seem to love it so much that they'd buy the dvd's.

So Relic Hunter, oddly, did better than the X-Files!

(Which rips my heart out, as The X-Files is one of my favorite TV shows.. but then... I OWN THE DVDS!)

Y'know, mask... just to play Devil's Advocate here for a second (probably more "devil" than "advocate", though)... I hear lots of people saying (and not just on this forum): "If you like a show, buy the DVDs to help support it".

So, using your logic then, if fans of a show buy the DVDs, they won't want to see it on TV. Would I be right in assuming, then, that in 5 years (if SPACE is still in existence), Relic Hunter could still be on the air, while a show like Battlestar Galactica won't be?

By this line of reasoning, buying DVDs of shows you like would be counter-productive to assuring they stay in re-runs for years to come, while nothing but the crappy programs will populate the public airwaves.

I would assume that most die-hard Star Trek fans own the DVDs too, but those shows get heavy rotation on SPACE... this doesn't seem to fit the mold either...

Re: Bringing the X-Files show to Space

    It's hard to say.

You (rightly) point out one of the great ironies of current tv- 'hot' shows like the sopranos, six feet under, and the X-Files do not do that well in re-runs, perhaps because people bought them on dvd. I could very well see BSG leaving SPACE, and 'lesser shows' staying.

'Mid range' popularity often brings in bigger numbers.

Star Trek is the great anomoly. I've often said that 11 years ago I predicted that there wouldn't be Star Trek on space after about 2000. Why, because the ratings would have dropped. Guess what... Star Trek is like comfort food, and the numbers have grown to a point where we have just purchased DS9...

Wonder how long it will be until certain people notice this... :)

If it's on at a convenient time, I might even tune in once in a while, even though I own the DVDs.

I watch Space, so I will have to see if I can find out.  I just hope it is on at a time that I can watch.

Re: Bringing the X-Files show to Space

I was wondering this too a while back, then I contacted someone at Space about it.  They informed me that some sort of contract ran out and they no longer had the rights to it anymore (something along those lines).

Watching the re-runs on space about nine or ten years ago got me back into the show, making me the fanatic I am today.  I do have the DVDs, but know for a fact I'd watch it on Space more... the channel runs in the background all the time.

Which show are you talking about?

    To clarify-

We will be getting Star Trek DS9 back, but not The X-Files.

Star Trek: TOS.  Then there is Eureka, BSG, SG:A, Supernatural, Terminator, Torchwood, and Primeval and Ghosthunters when I really want to insult the tv.
